Eric Bates is a Principal Engineer at Prysmian Group, which recently acquired General Cable. Eric was General Cable’s first Principal Engineer and has been with the company since 2007. He manages a portfolio of programs especially focusing on flame retardant and crosslinked systems, mainly in low voltage electrical Wire & Cable, and he acts as a mentor and technical advisor in a wide variety of Engineering and R&D activities.

Eric has over 35 years of experience in R&D for electrical Wire and Cable, starting his career as a Polymer Chemist at Essex Group Wire & Cable, working mainly in Synthetic Rubber, PVC, and XLPE. Eric has six patents (assigned to Superior Essex, Southwire, and General Cable). Eric holds a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering and a Master’s in Industrial Technology, both from Purdue University and works out of the Prysmian Group materials R&D Center in Indianapolis, Indiana. On his days off, Eric enjoys watching his granddaughter and grandson (both born last year), playing volleyball and the bass guitar.
